I KINGS 5 (KJV)

II CHRONICLES 2 (KJV)

C1And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of YHVH, and an house for his kingdom. C2And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. K1And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. K2/C3aAnd Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, C3bAs thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me. K3Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of YHVH his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until YHVH put them under the soles of his feet. K4But now YHVH my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent. K5And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of YHVH my God, as YHVH spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name. C4Behold, I build an house to the name of YHVH my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of YHVH our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel. C5And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods. C6But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him? C7Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide. K6/C8Command thou that they hew me cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians. C9Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great. C10And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil. K7a/C11And it came to pass, when Hiram the king of Tyre heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because YHVH hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them. K7b/C12Huram said moreover, Blessed be YHVH God of Israel this day, that made heaven and earth, which hath given unto David the king a wise son over this great people, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for YHVH, and an house for his kingdom. K8And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. C13And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s, C14The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father. C15Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants: K9/C16And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and my servants shall bring them down to thee from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, to Joppa; and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them, and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household. K10So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire. K11And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year. K12And YHVH gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together. K13And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. K14And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy. C17And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred. K15/C18And Solomon had set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work. K16Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work. K17And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house. K18And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
